The Szent István University(SIU) is one of Hungary’s most prominent institutions of higher education and was formed in 2000 from the amalgamation of several older universities (including the Budapest University, founded in 1787), forming 7 colleges, providing education and training in several fields of the life sciences, engineering, humanities as well as social sciences and has achieved international recognition in only 10 years. SIU received recognition for its scientific activity with 2 faculties in the college given the ”research faculty” award by the Hungarian government with regard to the quality of their research and innovation with only 4 faculties given the award, nationwide.
Scientific cooperation within the university and with other institutions of higher education, academia and research is very important and SVIU maintains strong international connections with partners in almost every continent, allowing students and staff to collaborate on a global scale to gain and share knowledge and expertise essential to their success. The University campuses are located in Budapest and 6 other surrounding towns, headquartered in the town of Gödöllő.
The university enrolls 16,000 students and 1,300 academic staff and provides a comfortable, relaxing environment for the attainment of knowledge with several university campuses located in beautiful, historic buildings throughout Hungary. SIU has also undertaken an extensive programme of refurbishment to assist the rapid growth of the university, opening a fully refurbished new student hostel for 464 in Gödöllő, multimedia laboratories at the Veterinary Faculty and redeveloping education building. SVIU combines it’s rich Hungarian traditions with cutting edge technology to provide an environment for students to develop the skills to be competitive in the current labour market.
